Essential Pleasures: A New Anthology of Poems to Read Aloud by Robert Pinsky

Essential for Everyone by watertown-reader

If you want to read poetry for pleasure but don't always think you know enough about poetry to "get it", this book is for you. This book is also great for those who already love reading poetry because Robert Pinshky introduces you to poets rarely heard. If you want to learn more about the construction of poetry, this book is fantastic as the chapters are arranged by category with introductions to that style (short lines, frequent rhymes, long lines, strophes and parallelism, love poems, ballads etc) which are interesting and I feel I have learned quite a lot. This book is a gem!
